Scholar

TUSI Scholars are an elite and educated group of student leaders, dedicated to carrying out TUSI’s mission. During the summer, eight week-long Initiatives will be lead by two trained and knowledgeable Scholars. The Scholar’s position is very important, and to be one you will have to fill out an application and go through an interview and training process.

Requirements

TUSI Scholars must be very driven and enthusiastic about the program, thus not just anyone is accepted! Read below to see if you fit the bill before filling out an interest form and application.

To be a TUSI Scholar, you must:

  1. Be enrolled at least part time in a local college or university.

  2. Be available to attend a two week, rigorous training regimen before your first Initiative.

  3. Be available for at least two Initiatives (two full weeks) during the summer, between spring and fall semesters.

  4. Fill out an application about your educational and personal background.

  5. Undergo a Criminal Offender Record Information check and/or an FBI check and a Sex Offender Registry Information check.

  6. Be CPR certified, or if not already certified, be willing to become CPR certified.

  7. Sign a “Media Release” form that pertains to dialogues, photos and videos.

After TUSI’s administrative team has reviewed all applications, they will choose students to go in front of an interview panel and participate in an open discussion. The prospective Scholars will learn about all future expectations and sign a “Waiver of Dedication”, should they be chosen to participate.

Expectations

A Scholar’s duties go far beyond escorting the Pioneers throughout the city on their Initiative. The Pioneers will be looking up to you for information, advice and energy! TUSI Scholars are held in high regard by the Pioneers, their colleagues and all third party participants, and thus must:

  1. Be responsible, timely, and dedicated to creating the most inviting and memorable experience that Pioneers will remember for a lifetime!

  2. Work well and courteously with your fellow Scholar, Super and Director of Programs to ensure that each Initiative runs without a hitch.

  3. Be knowledgeable about the details and curriculum of each Initiative and be confident and concise when delivering this knowledge through dialogues with the Pioneers.

  4. Partake in an exit interview and fill out a questionnaire/comment sheet so that any and all necessary improvements can and will be made!

  5. You must commit to the position and sign a “Contract of Dedication”.
