Explorations

TUSI Pioneers are the newest generation of explorers and city aficionados! Throughout each day of their week-long Initiative, they will be traversing through and to various neighborhoods and areas of interest in the city. It is during this time that the Pioneers with learn about the past, present and future of each area. Trained Scholars will be offering this information and expert docents will be joining the Pioneers at certain points along the way as well. For example, in Greater Boston there are 24 neighborhoods, each one different and special in its own respect. Pioneers will learn about historical and new structures, streets, parks, statues and waterways in these neighborhoods. To express your interest, or receive more information, fill out a “Get Involved” form!

Below are a few example Explorations that TUSI plans to provide for its Pioneers:

  1. Learning that Louisville Kentucky's Churchill Downs, which currently holds the record for the longest-running, continuous sporting event in the United States, was conceived by Colonel M. Lewis Clark, grandson of former Missouri governor and Lewis and Clark Expedition co-leader General William Clark.

  2. Architectural Walking Tour of Memphis provided by AIA Memphis.

  3. Learning that Boston's Rose Kennedy Greenway is a strip of public park land and gardens that sits on top of a major highway that used to be above ground! The four parks cover almost 15 acres and stretches nearly a mile long.
